Looking for a pattern to use african/tribal looking fabric
Hi there,
I want to make a quilt for a friend. Her husband is African and she is very fond of colorful tribal prints. I found a collection that would be perfect for her taste (Tribal from Snow Leopard Design). Here's an exemple.
But since it's not at all my usual style, I just don't have any clue about what kind of pattern I could use. Any idea? I would like to keep it quite simple as I want to finish this quilt rather quickly.

I had a piece of tribal-looking fabric but it wasn't enough for a quilt. I bought a 24X 36" painter's canvas and wrapped the fabric around it and hung it on the bedroom wall as a piece of art. It looked really nice (at least I think it did). At night, DH and I always keep a glass of water on our small nightstands, so I used a few small leftover pieces to make 2 double layer circular cloths to protect the wood.

Since most African fabrics are usually very busy I would keep it very simple.
Either sew them in squares or rectangles. If you want to go a little
fancier, add a black sashing. Check Google Images for African quilt.
Lots of ideas there.

I immediately thought of the BQ quilt patterns. They showcase large prints in squares with a background and accent colors. The company is Maple something. Let us see what you decide to do!

Have you ever looked at www.quilterscache.com for free patterns? You print them off on your computer. Its very handy, I think Marsha has over 1600 blocks now. I do like the way you have it laid out, and think the strips would be a great choice and very quick to do. Do show it to us as a finished quilt, please, so we can admire it too.
