Movie about Churchill
I just saw Darkest Hour and am wondering how our friends in the UK feel about it. Especially those old enough to remember him or more likely remember what your folks said about him. Was the movie pretty accurate?

I saw the movie a few weeks ago..it was good. I'm not British, nor English ethnically, so don't have any personal, feelings about the man. Just like watching historically based movies/series...makes having to memorize dates, events while in school so much more real........

We saw the movie and thought the overall acting was very good. Hubs is a WWII history buff and a retired US Navy officer. He felt it was reasonably accurate. We go to one “war” movie and he owes me two “chick” flicks. So far he owes me about 10 of those! :-)

I saw it and thought it was very good. Gary Oldham's portrayal of Churchill is something to see. Now I am binge watching The Crown on Netflix and also think that John Lithgow did an amazing job as Churchill. I'm loving every scene with 'Churchill' in it.

I read an interview with the director, who stated that the subway incident was an amalgam of various interactions between Churchill and the public, but that there is no documentation that the encounter actually occurred. I was also a bit surprised that the movie indicated so much doubt on Churchill’s part, especially about committing to the Dunkirk rescue. I’ve been a fan of Churchill since I was a small child in the ‘50s and have a great CD of his most famous speeches, so I noted that the film seriously reduced his two most famous speeches. Other than that, I was enthralled by the movie.
