Sulky rayon thread
Can I use sulky 40wt rayon thread to machine quilt? I've done a small section & it looks great. I love the sheen. Then I had to take out a small section and noticed that the thread really frays. I hesitate to go further until I know the thread will hold up. The quilt is for a 5yr old and will get some heavy use and probably be washed fairly often. Your thots on the thread and alternate thread ideas are welcome. Thanks

I have heard that rayon isn't good for quilts that are going into the washer/dryer. Other opinions may certainly differ.

I have used machine EMB polyester threads for regular quilting. Plus all baby quilts made on the EMB machine have held up to washer/dryer and baby activities.

Rayon is notoriously weak and is often not colorfast. I would not use it for quilting. If you love shiney thread most trilobal polyesters will fit the bill. You should consider Glide, Superior Magnifico, Isacord or Metro Embroidery thread. The metro site carries Metro and Glide. The Metro is very reasonably priced and the colors are very shiny.
