Presser foot up or down?
When storeing a machine should the presser foot be up or down? I've been told it should be up so there is no tension on the spring that raises the presser foot. Seems to make sense. Whaddaya think?

When any of my machines are resting (more than a few weeks) or being transported for workshops I take the needle out, foot down, give it an oil, and remove the bobbin and bobbin case. I try not to leave thread on bobbins.

I always leave my presser foot down with a piece of fabric under it so the feed dogs don't scar it. I do this after I have finished sewing -- not just when I leave for the summer or winter home. I also clean thoroughly at the end of the season. Q tips are great for getting at spaces under the plate.
