Default Graduation quilt for my Nephew

My SIL sent these shirts to me and asked me to do my magic. Couple of her requests were to add a basketball somewhere and keep it closer to a twin so he could take it to college with him. I send her a picture this evening and she loves it. Tomorrow I’ll get it quilted and send it back out west!

the basketball ended up being my favorite thing about this quilt.

    Thanks for looking.

Up next. 4 double sided Dr. Seuss themed crib quilts. I can’t wait to do these. They are going to go fast. That’s how basically 8 quilts got designed. It was my sons idea for a friends upcoming baby shower. Stay tuned.

Love everything about your quilt...and the basketball is my favorite block, too. Did you have to do partial seams to get this design layout?

Oh mercy! What a truly wonderful quilt, the basket ball net alone is spectucular in my opinion. This will be a prized posession by your nephew!

This is one of the most spectacular individualized T-shirt quilts I have seen. Love love the basketball and net (was it appliqued or printed?) the photos of friends and him, and the amazing swimmer at the bottom (did you design?) He will cherish it for a lifetime.

I like that a lot. I made a quilt similar to yours for a 2021 and 2022 graduation of Grandkids.

"work your magic" indeed. The quilt is magical and a true treasure for a college dorm bed.

The basketball itself is as near to actual size as I could get it which is what determined the block size I was using. The ball and the lines were sewn onto the background first. I left small openings for the pieces of the net that were to be "behind" the ball. The black lines on the ball is made from one piece of fabric, fused then zig-zag stitched down. The net is also from one piece of fabric, fused down then zig-zag stitched in place. I used a light box to get the lines drawn onto the paper side of the fusible webbing, cut them out then used the light box again to lay it down in the right place before ironing it down and stitching over it.

Here's a couple more pictures of the process. In the second picture, I was just looking at how the net was going to look against the ball.

Both this picture and the swimmer at the bottom were clipart I found online. My nephew's strongest and favorite swim stroke is the breast stroke and this was the best picture that I could find that I liked. I modified the water to more than just a line.

and Thank you for your kind words and compliments.
