I did an hexagonal topper before and wanted to make this one octagonal. I intended all the borders to look like the first one, but I did not think it very well. When I finished piecing I loved the look with the small purple triangles floating, so I kept it that way. What do you think?

This one and the hexagonal will be for sale at the classifieds.

I love your toppers - but the octagon one just speaks volumes to me. I would love to have a copy of your directions for it if you wouldn't mind sharing. I have been looking at all of the toppers that have been posted on here and I think I like this one the best.

Thanks,
Sherryl

Love the floating triangles! They set off the whole topper.

Thanks!

This is what I did. I cut my octagonal shape using the tea pot as the center. I then added a purple border around, making my corners mitered, so they all are the same size. I then cut strips of the golden and the purple and sewed the strips together. I sewed the strips to the purple border, but I did not mitered. Instead I sewed the top and bottom and the left and right. after this seam is done I trimmed the excess, along the borders of the diagonal borders. I then added the diagonal borders. When this border is added the small triangles are formed. Very simple but not easy to explain. I wish I had taken pics along the way.
