and don't have a border and are using blocks w/ points, don't your points get cut off? Well not cut but sewn over?

If you cut your binding 1/8" beyond the quilt, then do the 3/8" binding by lining it up to the edge of the batting, I think you'd be at the right place. It's hard to match the points blindly though.

See, I always cut my batting (I'm assuming that's what you meant in the first part of your sentence) even, and with scissors, because for me, it's easier than laying it all out and cutting with a rotary cutter. I don't have a lot of room here. If I had to cut it 1/8" beyond, I would not be able to do it evenly (I have carpal tunnel syndrome so doing it even is tough enough). I guess for a small quilt that I had room to lay out on a big mat it would work.

I'm still trying to perfect my binding. I like the binding to look full but 2.5" to start out isn't quite full with a 1/4" seam allowance so I was thinking that maybe 2.25" would be better.

What if you stay stitched around the front, crossing the points where the seam should be? Then line the binding up on the back side 3/8" from where the stay stitching is. Then you can turn it around to the front and stitch it down, matching up the edge of the binding to the stay stitching. I personally like the 2.5" binding better.

That sounds like too much measuring. I usually do borders anyway but either way, I'll keep using the 1/4". I don't mind the narrower binding anyway. I was just curious about others, not so much wanting to do mine differently.
