Default Flanged Binding

As requested by many board asked for a tutorial on how I do my flanged binding. So here it goes, if anyone has a problem please send me a message and I will try to help you.

Step 1: cut trim fabric (flange) 1 3/4 inches and main color 1 1/2 inches. I like mine smaller so I cut mine 1 1/2 trim and and 1 1/4 main, set if you need 10 strips then cut 10 of each color and sew end to end, I do mine on the angle and I press my seams in the same direction.

Step 2: sew the two pieces together using 1/4 inch seam allowance

Step 3: press toward main color fabric

Step 4: attach to quilt right side of binding to back side of quilt and sew like normal binding, again I use a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Step 5: set seam on back and press binding up and then turn over and press binding to front and miter and pin corners as picture show.

Step 6: match thread to trim and backing and stitch along the trim line.

This took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete. Good luck to all, also I would like to give credit to TLC stitches and another blog which i can not find as I know I have been doing this longer then 2010. Also there is another blog that does normal binding using elmers glue and stitches in the ditch, and she gives credit to another blog for teaching her, she is like me and hates hand binding. I don't remember which blogs they were but I have also done this method and it works great. I believe a person should always give credit to whomever they learned it from, I need to start writhng things done to where I learn so many helpful techniques.
Happy Quilting.
