I fold my fat qtr in half and then in half again. I place the fabric close to the edges the folds away from the die blades. cut, than I unfold and cut the area of the triangle that is left and you will have two pieces of large fabric left. I then cut the two triangles and then the two large pieces. That will give you 8 tumblers plus a piece to make a scrappy border. Very, very little waste.

That is an excellent idea, but I THINK would do the cutting differently. Take the first steps you mention. Putting right sides of fabric together, use a template and sew the 2 together, then trim off seam. Easier to work with and no struggling with diagonal seams.

If that is the waste to the left of the tumblers...could be used in a string quilt.....for those who hate to throw anything away. Just love working with those dies!!!!

I've been playing around with the cutter too and discovered the same thing. All I waste is a wee little strip, probably less than cutting with a rotary cutter!

Any chance you could show the next two steps? I'm having problems consistently getting 8, sometimes I only get 7 and my leftovers are not the best.

    Thanks!
