I realise this tutorial was written 2 years ago, but I wanted to say a heartfelt "thank you" for this wonderful block. Right after reading the directions I sat down and sewed a test block to come up with a 9-1/2 unf. Figured if I started with 6" squares I'd be close. Just had to trim off 1/2". It really is a wonderful block. Now I just have to work at matching the center seams better.
