Interesting...and maybe this is just semantics, but I thought needle turn applique involves no prep work, starch etc. I do it with just the fabric and a needle, turning it under as I go. I actually prefer the starch method applique like you posted.

Nicely done tutorial. Love your illustrations.

As with most things quilty, there is more than one way to accomplish something. I think it's better to illustrate one way well - much less confusing to me then.
