I'm posting the pattern I wrote for making the Card Trick block using squares and rectangles, not a triangle in sight in the block.

The block is then set on point within the top, with setting triangles instructions included here, too.

How nice of you to do this. I'm adding this to my to do list. Thank you.

Jan in VA 02-17-2011 02:56 PM

Did the pattern come up for you, Irishrose, I still haven't gotten it on my screen?

Dear Jan in VA
Looks great and the instructions seem clear. Hope to find time to work on one of these soon. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you.

CarrieAnne 02-17-2011 03:17 PM

Thanks!

Nanclm 02-17-2011 03:24 PM

I tried and tried to download this. Must be doing something wrong. :(

TeriD 02-17-2011 03:25 PM

Thank you for posting this--I can't wait to try it! So much less intimidating when you don't have to deal with triangles!

okiepastor 02-17-2011 03:26 PM

The Word doc downloaded, but I presume all the spaces are for pictures or diagrams? Those are not here--just the first one. came up i the doc....I can do it with just instructions, but some of my friends need the visuals...

Nanclm 02-17-2011 03:26 PM

I finally got it to work. Thanks for sharing!

SueDor 02-17-2011 03:31 PM

Thanks Jan! Nice instructions!

pocoellie 02-17-2011 03:44 PM

Thanks for the great tutorial.

donnaree59 02-17-2011 03:50 PM

I haven't printed this off yet, but I'm really anxious to try it.... I want to do one with brights and a black background. Saw one somewhere (probably here) and it was really nice! Thank you for going to all this trouble!

Fab-ra-holic 02-17-2011 03:55 PM

I didn't get any of the pictures. But thanks for the tut.

Rhonda 02-17-2011 03:57 PM

I don't have Word so it won't download for me. Can you post it in tutorials on the board?

Ditto

Jan,

Thank you!!! I'm doing a happy dance here...I just made one of these earlier in the week using the traditional pattern and had a difficult time with the triangles...in fact, I posted a request for help! Your directions and pictures are clear and concise - I'm confident this will be easier for me than those triangles :)- Thanks again! ... I'll be making another one very soon using your tute.

jdiane318 02-17-2011 04:59 PM

Jan, thanks so much for sharing this pattern. I knew you said it was easy, no triangles except for being on point. I appreciate the time you took this. I have it saved and have printed off a copy.

sueisallaboutquilts 02-17-2011 05:09 PM

Thanks, Jan! Such a great block :)

Deb watkins 02-17-2011 05:12 PM

I couldn't get it to even open.

Scraps 02-17-2011 05:16 PM

Thanks Jan for posting these directions! Very generous of you!

shawnemily 02-17-2011 05:20 PM

Great tute! Thank you for sharing!

Baysidegal 02-17-2011 05:41 PM

I wonder if you had a chance if you might convert it to a pdf file. I don't have word either.

ncsewer 02-17-2011 06:17 PM

This looks so much easier than I had imagined it could ever be. Thanks,

Rhonda 02-17-2011 06:50 PM

I have windows Internet Explorer. I was determined to try to see this file. I downloaded the file. Then I right clicked on the file and chose open with.. and then chose Wordpad and it opened the file. I have never tried Wordpad before and don't know if any of you have it but it is worth a try if you don't have Word.

Jan in VA 02-17-2011 07:55 PM

I'm sorry for those of you who had trouble opening this. I'd not posted like this before and didn't realize it should have been done in pdf. format. Oldmountaincrafts offered to do that for me and repost it. I hope that helps everyone.

It's given me yet another thing to learn. Further down on the list. Sigh.

Thanks so much for posting this a few years ago this was the block my craft club did for our yearly draw, The lady who won the blocks is working on quilting it now and it looks gorgeous, when it is finished I hope to post a pic. There is not a triangle in it!

mmonohon 02-17-2011 09:46 PM

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I have been wanting to do this block.

ctack2 02-17-2011 11:44 PM

I also couldn't load it.

Yooper32 02-18-2011 03:11 AM

I gave up trying to figure out where to put the download, so just opted to print it off, which worked fine. It did take quite a few pages, but what's a few pages for a neat tute. Thanks Jan.

granky 02-18-2011 03:56 AM

Thanks! Your tut makes it so simple!

swanrd 02-18-2011 04:05 AM

Thank you so much for making this block easy for us.

JoyjoyMarie 02-18-2011 04:35 AM

Thanks Jan - that's terrific!

emerald46 02-18-2011 04:45 AM

thanks.

sik1010 02-18-2011 04:57 AM

Thanks-Great tutorial!

JMZquilts 02-18-2011 05:00 AM

I printed it off just fine and thanks, it looks like fun. But I am a "newer" type quilter and am not familiar with this block. I'm confused about the colors when you show how to assemble the blocks. Are all the blocks made with the same color layout? Do you (or anyone else) have a quilt made with these blocks so I can see how it looks? Any suggestions about possible yardage needed for a lap size quilt?

alleyoop1 02-18-2011 05:20 AM

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I saved it and hope to use it in the future. So nice of you to do this. :)

bourvel 02-18-2011 05:27 AM

Many many thanks for your tut, you're explanation is very clear and easy to follow

denilynne 02-18-2011 05:27 AM
