This is beautiful! Thanks for the tutorial. Before I run out to buy the fabrics, can I use organza? I think organza is a little more shearer and I'd like to layer it as you say.

Will either the chiffon or organza wash okay if you were to applique on to a sweatshirt, or totebag, or bed quilt(etc)?

Now that's something I can't readily answer. If the piece was just outlined like a balloon I would think it would be very risky unless you used a wider satin stitch, and may be did a couple of rows of straight stitch under the satin stitch. The fact there are veins in the leaves will stabilize it somewhat but some organzas and chiffons are very flimsy and distort easily. At least it should be washed in a garment bag. My suggestion would be to try it on a small piece. I hadn't intended this to be washable.

Thanks Marykatherine for sharing this tutorial. I really want to give this a go....but alas I have no chiffon, and the nearest fabric store is 1 hour away.
