First, I wanted to quilt a special quilt-method: zentangle.I wanted to know the zentangle:
What is a zentangle?
http://zentangle.com/about-what-is--1.php
thereafter I was looking for the zentangle website(here more other links!):
http://zentangle.com/index.php
Then I was looking for patterns: http://web.me.com/launie_m/Site/Gallery.html

I selected a pattern(copy a picture)...
How to planning:

Good job everyone!!!

The selected pattern is copied to a (thin) paper with a copier or design your own pattern…I glued the thin paper to the copy-paper...

I quilted the pattern on a paper(sandwich)

Remove the paper

The back side...

Will have to make the time to watch these.

I love Zentangle. Not sure if I would ever be able to do the quilting. Can you imagine what a great whole cloth Zentangle quilt would look like.

pjnesler 08-20-2011 06:13 AM

Great info, thank you so much!

Homespun 08-20-2011 06:38 AM

Thanks, those blocks are so pretty.

OHSue 08-20-2011 06:43 AM

Thanks. I have enjoyed tangling but was hesitant to try it on a quilt, but I like your method. Will have to try this one.

A suggestion...

Print your pattern on regular paper. Trace the pattern onto fabric with a regular pencil (washes out) or fabric marking pen which will iron away or wash out. Sandwich with batting and backing and then quilt.

I used to love doing "scribble designs" in 5th grade. These are very reminiscent of those. Anyone else remember? Those were days long gone in a galaxy far, far away.

bobbie1 08-20-2011 07:02 AM

Like the zentangles and have been looking on internet for patterns. So....there is no wrong or right way to zentangle? Is that correct? Just scribbling and doodling basically?I tried it on paper last night and if I am correct as to what "it" is..I love it. Also used colored pencils. "Whatever" I did looks good!! LOL!

Dear Tothenci,
Again I thank you for these instructions for Zentangles!
I am fascinated by them! The possibilities are endless.
I also want to thank you for all the interesting ideas and techichniques you have introduced us to recently!
The results of your curiosity - extended to us to explore,
have been very interesting, asking us to "think outside of the box" which is a very good thing - stretching our imaginations.
Jeannie

Thanks for explaining how you do your zentangle quilts. I have everything ready to go for one and now I just need some free time in my life to start. I really do love your zen quilts.

fivepaws 08-20-2011 09:20 AM

The more I look, the more fascinated I become. I think I will start practicing FMQ and maybe come out with some that I could use for Zentangles. Thanks.

What pen are you using and what paper? It appeared on YouTube that they were using small pieces, ie., 3-4". This is just too fascinating. I need to finish a quilt before I can begin 'tangling'. It looks like too much fun not to join in.

juneayerza 08-20-2011 01:22 PM

Thank you for posting this tut and information. At first I didn't really understand what this was about, but now I see some possibilities for making my own, featuring orchid designs.

Grambi 08-20-2011 01:54 PM

Thank you so much for sharing your process. I can't wait to give this a try! Your work is beautiful.

KarenB 08-20-2011 04:32 PM

very cool! great job!

geckos42 08-20-2011 05:49 PM

Be careful using the name "Zentangle". The originators of the word and creators of the "system" (their word) are admittedly "very passionate about its growth and development". Be careful It's protected. A safe bet would be to use the term "pen and ink drawings" or perhaps "geometric quilt designs". I was warned about use of the word.

Nice

magpiefeather 09-01-2011 12:15 AM

I doodle like this alot! Never knew it had a name or that there was a whole group doing it with a copyright! But I love what you have done with your pen and ink drawings! And the addition of color is icing on the cake...

djvaug 09-16-2011 06:34 PM

I knew how to make the zentangle, but not how to put it on fabric. Thanks. This is super!

dltaylor 09-16-2011 07:56 PM
