My daughter's hanky quilt including the pattern

Thank you to everyone who commented on my daughter's quilt and for your interest in the pattern. I did get permission from Moda and Patrice (Administrator) to post the pattern here on the Board. There are 3 pages. The first 2 are the copies of the original Moda Hankie Quilt pattern that I got from the quilt store. The 3rd page is a diagram of how I set up my DD quilt showing the sashing. I also used a log cabin block in the corners of the piano key border. Good luck and thanks to all for your kind words. Thank you, Patrice. I appreciate your time and effort.

Yolanda, thank you so much! I forgot to ask -- what size is the quilt? I don't have as many hankies as used in yours. Also, I'm assuming you backed the hankies with French Fuse and then sewed/appliqued them to the Kona blocks?

Pete 09-01-2012 10:45 AM

Thank you so very much! I hope someday I can repay you for your work on obtaining this for us!

marymay 09-01-2012 10:49 AM

Thank you so much. I just love your quilt.

Evie! The original pattern calls for fewer hankies. In the Moda pattern there are several blocks that are vintage printed fabrics. By that, I guess I mean, small light colored prints. I did back some of the hankies with French Fuse but ONLY those that were thin or worn. My quilt size was approximately 96" x 116". It fits my DD queen-size bed as a blanket. By that, I mean, that it covers the pillows and I there is no need for shams.

I have a photo of a quilt that my DDIL made for our cottage (twin-size) if you would like to see it, I will post it in "Pictures" or I can send it to you via e-mail. Contact me any time that you feel you would like my input. Yolanda Wood River

littlebitoheaven 09-01-2012 11:33 AM

In the Moda Hankie Quilt pattern, only the "H" numbered blocks contain hankies. The other blocks are printed fabric blocks. This pattern is for a twin-size bed. Therefore, you do not need as many hankies as I used in my DD quilt. Please feel free to contact me at any time. I am so pleased that my quilt has inspired others to make their hankie quilts too. I too would like to thank you. I have a book on hankie quilts and it tells how NOT to cut your hankies up, but they were folded as to not ruin the original hankie.

I love this. Thank you so much for the pattern. I have a friend that has dozens of used hankies that she doesn't want to get rid of and I may try to talk her out of a few. Your quilt is absolutely fabulous. Again, thanks for taking the time to get this pattern for us.

RUSewing 09-02-2012 08:43 AM

Sew very pretty. That inspires a method to make a wallhanging from my antique hankies.

I was still able to fine Moda Hankies on line. Don't remember where. I just googled Moda Hankies and I found them. I believe there are 16 in a pack. Not sure about that. For the others, I bought them from a man from China on e-bay. I checked for one of our other members and he is still selling them. There are many on e-bay but his were the ones I liked and purchased. I received them very quickly. If you want me to fine him for you, I would be glad to do that. Yolanda Wood River

Ttank you so much for the pattern. I have many of my mother-in-laws hankies and now have an idea of how to do this. Your quilt is beautiful.

jojo47 09-04-2012 04:42 PM

Thank you for posting this pattern. I have a number of my late mother's hankies, and have yet to do something with them. Seeing this gives me the idea to make table runners with them and present them to my sisters and my daughters in Mom's memory. Thank you again!

psailer 09-04-2012 09:38 PM

Thank you so much for sharing your quilt and then going the extra by sharing the directions. I think we learn so much from each other. Taking all those lovely hankies and displaying them as a quilt is a wonderful idea and certainly an heirloom.
