I used to make costumes and tried and hated most of the invisible thread THEN I found Sulky POLYESTER invisible and really like it. If I were you I would toss that old invisible thread. Most of it is nylon and breaks terrible.
Sulky will make you a happy quilter. It is available at JoAnn's

I, too, think the binding needs to be wider than 2 1/2 inches. The stitching on the front does not go on the very edge, it goes nearer the edge of the larger color on the front, which is the smaller of the strips used to make the binding strip. This can be very confusing, so make a sample for yourself and see what happens first hand.

Thank you so much for this new way to bind a quilt. For baby gift reviving blankets I sew 1 miter squares of flannel together binding with satin blanket binding. Machine sew on the front, flip over and hand sew onto back. Takes me 4 hrs to hand sew the binding on one blanket. I am so looking forward to trying this new method. Took me a bit of studying to figure it out but I think I have the gist of it now.

Great tutorial. This is the only way I do my bindings now. It is a great way to bind.

I love this idea. I am running short on fabric for a binding and have plenty of a darker color...this will help solve my problem and add an interesting element.

Love those flange bindings.
If you are sewing with a 1/4 inch seam, 2 1/2 inches is too wide for the binding strip. You will not get a full binding. I have found that 2 inches makes a neater binding and the binding looks fuller.
