Make a 9 patch per the layout in photo 2.
Your ratio is 1:1.5, so 3" x 4.5" 6" x 9" etc. If you know one block dimension and not the other: smaller, multiply by 1.5 larger, divide by 1.5 This will give you the other dimension. Your original cornerstones will become your vd9p focus blocks, so be aware of placement. This example cuts the long side first. Example is 4, subtract 1 seam allowances. Divide by 3. Add 1/4 back to that measurement. Measure to the middle from the sides, and cut. Leaving center in place, move left piece to right side and move right piece to left side. Measure your other middle section. Example is 5, subtract 1 seam allowances. Divide by 3. Add 1/4 back to that measurement. Measure to the middle from the sides, and cut. Again, leave center pieces in place. Move 3 right pices to left and 3 left pieces to right. |

Using Connecting Thread's Golden Afternoon collection
pieces were 3 x 5.25 cuts were wide 4 3/4 minus 1 = 3 3/4 3 3/4 divided by 3 = 1 1/4 1 1/4 plus 1/4 = 1 1/2 cut in from block edges on both sides narrow 2 1/2 minus 1 = 2 2 divided by 3 = .67 .67 plus .25 = .92 (7/8 =.875) I cut 7/8 in from block edges on both sides. If you WANT to cut slightly less than 15/16, fine by me  here are 4 of the uncut 9 patches (upper right block in layout) bottom right block in layout Upper left block in layout bottom middle in Layout Layout Alternate Layout |
my cut pieces are 3 1/2 x 5 1/4
I wouldnt go any smaller than that. |
thank you for the pics to keep this straight. without the pics I had a hard time following the pattern before. Now maybe I can get this. :)
