My 5 year granddaughter and I have made "bags" just a couple of charm squares. We make several and then play a bean bag game. She also likes making pillowcases right now. A month ago it was tote bags. A simple bag with 3 sides and a handle. She calls them her purses. I let her pick from my stash, caution, she might pick something you have plans for. Sometimes she sews and sometimes she does the layout and brings me the charm squares to sew.
Sometimes she just picks things to sew together. Like maybe batting, and charm squares and wants to sew a button (the button is usually done by me) sometimes she takes her "art" and sometimes it just hangs on the wall in my sewing room where she admires it each time she comes. She loves to use the clips instead of pins. She loves to just organize her sewing basket while I sew. We just hang in the sewing room. We have been know to have a tea party in the sewing room after making a placemat. We just have fun, I will work on technique later, because the love of sewing is a gift that I can share with her and she can take it anywhere she wants. I must confess several times I have been so tempted to say put it together like this, but I am patient because the smile of pride in getting done for her is huge. What can I say, she has no UFO's.

Adorable sleeping bag and what a great idea of attaching the pillow to the sleeping bag. You did such a great job on this.

This looks like an easy project to work on with my grand daughter next weekend.
