Default Stretch, Shrink, Move

Moving the lines of a "basic" block/unit such as a 9-patch can create different looks -

Example attached:

I really do like your sketches which show the terms you are mentioning. I have heard of some of them, but seeing them jotted down like this makes them much more meaningful. Wouldn't it be fun to try some of these in the same quilt top? Maybe I could do some traditional nine-patch blocks in the center, then make rows of different views going out toward the sides, top and bottom of the quilt top. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you for showing your sketches! I've never thought of a nine patch in so many ways.

I am having one of "those days"! When I first looked at this post I thought it said "stretch shriek and move". I pictured myself stretching, yelling in pain and getting up and moving around. My oh my, maybe I should start to worry about my mind for real!!

Thank you for showing us your sketches. This is a very interesting way to look at a nine patch. I always thought of them as equal parts, but that is not so. Thanks again.

Georgia Bonesteel clarified this concept for me when I watched one of her shows a long time ago.

(She used a cat block for her demonstration)
