This is one design I have used several times. It's generally a hit for my foster kids' quilts. I also do other "big block quilts', such as friendship stars. It's also great for wheel chair quilts. There are a number of blocks that lend themselves to this sort of single block quilt, for example, Dutchman's puzzle. I have used it with novelty fabrics for kids and 'grown up' fabrics for bigger folks.

That is exactly what I thought when I saw this top - I am just recently beginning to quilt and just want to do the small lapquilts (wheel chair) for nursing home donations - so I will give this a try. Thanks for the tutorial and thanks MadQuilter for the inspiration!

I just got my top done of this star. What quilting design would work for this? I am using my DSM. I don't want the center of the star to be mashed down.

Nice job! Jenny of MSQC has a Big Star Tutorial, not this big, but a nice size, I am going to try it soon. I've bought my fabrics!

I made a quilt using this tutorial but it's just a flimsy right now, so easy to do, wish I could upload pictures here to show it, I'm pretty proud of myself for doing it. Maybe I'll figure out how to post pictures once it's completely done.

It's just beautiful. Thank you for the pattern. I love the idea of the star being so large and the entire center of the quilt.

Here is my version of the big star quilt.
    A quilt for our daughter's 23rd birthday.

It was an easy one to make too.
Why I didn't think to make this a couple of weeks ago. I just had "take5 quilt" stuck in my head and made 3 of them...lol
