Default It happened again...

About 2 yrs ago I had a CL ad up - for buying, and fixing old sewing machines. A guy called and said he had an old singer that no one wanted at his garage sale. Could I swing by his place and pick it up from his girlfriend. She handed me a little broken mint green box! I was in shock.

Then yesterday, I was walking with my little boy in the neighbourhood early morning, while a lady was hanging up a garage sale sign. I asked my standard questions 'any guitars or sewing machines?' She said she had some sewing machines for $25!

I went there immediately & saw the little blk box with $150 on it. I opened it up and it was jammed to the top with accessories (zigzager, buttonholer). A bit pricey but I had just gotten pd so I bought it.

I carried it home and unpacked it and there was a 222 inside! The only thing it's missing is the embroidery hoop. The darning foot is even there. Anyone willing to sell the hoop?

Im in shock! Stars aligned twice or my city is saturated with 221 & 222s. Our city did have a singer store downtown for eons.

Wow lucky you! Are you saying you didn't even look inside until you got home? You got a very nice deal and then a 222 to boot!

You are indeed very lucky! And it makes perfect sense if you had a Singer Store in your town there would be a lot of them around. My grandmother told me once she bought my mom the Singer in the cabinet for my mom because she was a good seamstress and made a lot of her clothes. She bought my aunt a small Singer portable because she needed to be able to hem or repair items from time to time but never liked to sew. So a lot of people that didn't really sew but needed to have the ability to repair bought the small portables to keep handy. I asked my aunt about it once, she said she knew she still had it "somewhere."

Enjoy your surprise.

Yup, I didn't know it was a 222 til I was home. I never even thought to check the machine bed. I couldn't open it till I was home because the box was stuffed with accessories (attachments box, zigzager, button holer, button holer template box, zigzag cam box, ect. I just saw the top arm and it looked to be in good condition with no scratches.

No hoop not complaining

Wow, Awesome finds! Congrats on that 222. One question though: I see a bunch of quartersawn white oak under it. Looks like it might be another machine. What's it sitting on?
