I was gifted a black heavy Singer last week. It is working and has a nice stitch. I just wonder if it is a 15 91 or what? The sn shows it was born in 1952. I have a MW 15 clone that is capable to lower feed dogs via a nob on bed but this Singer has no nob to lower feed dogs, does that mean it isnt a 15?

Could be. There is a knob underneath the bed on the 15-91 that you loosen to "disconnect" the feed dog mechanism, which in effect lowers them.

Not sure how to post a picture. There doesn't seem to be a knob underneath. At least I do not see it. I took it to Dr and the clerk thought maybe a 301 but then another said no. I will keep trying to post picture.

If your machine has a motor that is built in the machine instead of the standard motor and belt setup chances are it's a 15-91.
Moving the feed dog knob to the top of the bed was a brilliant move by the Japanese when they started copying the model 15.

Ok thanks. It does not have a belt, the motor is built into the machine. Thanks for all your help. I really dont care what model it is, the decals are pretty and she runs great. Only missing a spindle for thread on top. I'll just tell everyone it's a 15-91, my friends will never know. Ha

If the motor is built directly on to the machine it's either a 15 or a 201.
What's the serial number?

I looked it up for you. Your machine is a 15. If the motor is part of the machine on the back it is a 15-91. There were 50,000 of them made for release that day, May 26, 1952. You have a 62 year old Singer..... congrats. Have fun with it.
