What a treasure -- and to have the history to go along with it! I'm sure the family hated to part with this piece of their family history!

Would you say that is the smartest $100 you ever spent? I certainly would. This has been a good week for great acquisitions on the board this week, huh? Just a couple of days ago one of our members came across something that she was giggling about--my old brain and the fact that I have been piecing a quilt all day makes for a foggy memory right now. I would be as proud as punch of a machine like this, and being able to find it at a price I would be willing to pay--and I can see that you are just that Steve. Congratulations.

Oh my!$100! Lost for words! Oh, except to say there might be more of the decals under a black layer, from recent experience.
Now that is a real bargain.

I am having a really HARD time finding anything about this drive mechanism.

There are two ratcheting pulleys
The leathers connect at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock (or 4 and 8) on each cylinder
Each foot had an end with two screws/washers as leather strap hold downs (old leather bit still there)

The concept obviously is that while one is up the other is down, this allows EACH foot press to advance the drive wheel, and when you stop pumping/pedaling the ratchet mechanism should allow you to let it run without the feet moving. BRILLIANT. Why did this not continue? Too costly i'd bet.

Now,
WHICH goes to which?
How long should the leathers be? (all appear to be damaged)
Are they 10-2 or 4-8??? (do the straps hang down or wrap partially around)

The FUN part!!!

Well, Thanks again Steve, for showing me and others something we may never have seen, or will ever see again. You know I think this doesn't happen to you by accident. There is definitely a reason. Barny
