nice Domestic fiddle base. I have one rough shape. serial # from under the slide plate is 808680. The machine and coffin top are just like the one shown here. Mine as 5 drawers and has a star on the cross bar and the peddle wheel guard. Any way to date this machine. I'm a newbie here. Thanks

Welcome to the board. The most helpful people in the area of vintage machines hang out in the Vintage Sewing Machine Shop (VSMS.) We have our own section of the board, with nearly 1200 pages. Billy, (lostin51) is the fix and restore the machine guy, Glenn is the cabinet restore person, and there are a whole bunch of folks who must have all the bookmarks and knowledge combined to fill a library with information. This is our current page, http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43881-1167.htm. I spent weeks trying to date my fiddle base. The date is approximate, based on the cabinet style and the fact that it predates the thread guide for the bobbin. Be prepared to post some good pictures of your machine and any numbers you can find on it. I'll be watching for it.

thanks olebat. like I said, mine is rough but has hidden beauty. I tried to quit but this one showed up on my doorstep. I have 4 machines now. from a 1872 Howe with the fold out coffin box, to a 1898 and 1812 singer. Oh, a 1953 electric singer in the #5 cabinet with the curved drawers. Back to the Domestic, I'm GUESSING it's somewhere around 1890-ish. It's got at least 100 yrs of gunk on it but isn't froze/set up.I'll send pics when I figure it out and also go to your section/ thanks again
