Default 301

I have been looking for a 301 and there is now one listed on Craigslist. It looks to be in very good condition and really clean, but he wants $165. for it and I think that may be a little high. What would you offer for it?

Here the go usually between $50-$100. Not sure what the going rate is by you. Is it in a cabinet or just the machine itself? I'm cheap - haven't paid more than $50 for any of my vintage machines, including my FW. But that's me. It really depends on what it's worth to YOU. Sorry, probably not much help.

Seems high to me. I paid $10 for mine at a thrift store, but that was really cheap.

I have two 301's. I paid a LOT more than $165 for them, but I got them from a Singer Dealer and they were tuned up and prime. So to my way of thinking, thats not a bad price, but keep looking, I have seen them cheaper like on shopgoodwill.com site. But who knows the condition of those?

I think it is pricey also, but if you have been looking for one, it is probably worth contacting the seller and checking out the machine. Once you see the condition firsthand, you will be in a better position to decide how much it is worth to you. The price may be negotiable, and you won't know the negotiating points until you see/operate the machine.

Maybe this is the one for you! If not, good luck in the future on the hunt.

I have also been looking for a 301 and the prices being asked here are much higher - they tend to be around $200+ when offered by a private seller and even at the thrift stores they are at least $160. I guess it depends on where you live and supply and demand. It would be great to find one that is in fantastic shape and at a reasonable price. I asked at a local dealer/repair place and they wanted $400! - it was in terrific shape but didn't include any extras - was machine with bobbin, one foot and footpedal only - way above my price range!

check EBAY. There aresome on there at times that are cheaper. I paid $90 for my black one that went cross country, before I got it and no case, but it had the setup to put in a cabinet attached. I paid $86 for my mocha one in the suitcase and it was cleaned and ready to go. I have a bunch of attachment boxes that I have been putting with my machines, so they are complete. I bought bobbins on line and also needles from the same place. I got a box of 100 bobbins and a box of 100 needles in 10pk. really good needles same as the store for like $10-free shipping. The bobbims fit my FW also and they were $25 for the box of 100 and free shipping.

I know around here you can't easily get one for the prices quoted above. How long do you want to wait? How much do you want it? Offer what you think is a fair price for a machine that is all metal and you could never buy at a big box store.

I've been following a couple on E-Bay -- it looks like the price you quote is about average depending on the state of the machine. There's one right now in a case for $152.00 with $25.00 shipping that looks pretty good. Another is $250.00 but has been completely refurbished by an experience sewing machine repair person. If I were in the market for one, I'd go with the higher priced one since it will be usable out of the box.
