Default Another Great Garage Sale Find

Today I found this Wizard 3KC 8844 sewing machine in near perfect condition for $15. Now I am a Singer person myself but it was just so darn pretty, I just love the color combination, and it looked so shiny I just couldn't pass it up. I have been on the internet searching and cannot find a whole lot of info about this machine. I do have the manual so that helps a lot. It sews so quietly but alas, it is heavy as lead, so my DH will be helping me with this one. The manual says you can push in the large round white button for reverse stitch when in straight stitch mode but I can't get it to even budge. It does go in all the way as you increase the stitch length and comes out as you decrease the length but when I stop sewing and try to push it in for reverse it just will not budge. Would anyone on this board have one of the cuties or know something about them. Apparently there is a set of cams that go with this machine but the lady didn't have them at the sale. She is going to look around and see if she can find them for me. The manual doesn't give a list of accessories so maybe the only thing that came with the machine besides the cams was the zig zag foot. Also the needle is to the far left for straight sewing with no way to move it to the center so I will be using some type of tape to get an accurate quarter inch. I don't believe a quarter inch foot would be of help with this machine. It appears that the bobbins are the same as for my Singer 15-91 and also the same as for my Brother CS6000i. Well, it is an interesting machine. The internet says this was a machine that was sold under the name of Wizard by Western Auto in the 60's and that Wizard was to Western Auto as Kenmore was to Sears.

That looks brand new. Hope you get the reverse figured out. Have fun sewing on that beauty.

Blackberry,

Sew-Classic sells left parking strait stitch feet for high shank machines. Yours looks to be a high shank but I can't be positive from the pics. They also sell seam guides that screw to the bed so you don't have to stick tape on the machine.

The smaller the stitch length, the less you can push in the reverse lever. However pull the top and get some Tri-Flow down inside the reverse mechanism and everything else that moves. That should do the trick.

That's a nice looking machine.

Take the top off and put some oil on the gear where the button goes in. It might just need a drop or two.
