Default Atlas Deluxe???

I recently found a machine just like the one pictured at a garage sale for $5. I had never heard of this brand but thought I couldn't pass it up. Can anyone tell me how to find out when it was manufactured? I did find a copy of the manual online so that has been a big help. From what I read, many of the machines at that time were made in Japan and then badged with different brands here in the United States. The number stamped into the bottom of the machine is A 859622. I appreciate your help!!!

Hi Misty,

I like your name. My daughter-in-law’s name is Misty, and she’s a super gal!

There were at least two versions of the pink Atlas Deluxe Straight Stitch machines. I’ve come across two of the “S-series” (just my terminology for the Atlas machines with serial numbers that begin with an “S”). I had S248303, and now I have S135522. Both of mine have the tension assembly on the front of the machine (toward the operator) instead of on the face of the machine like the one in your photo.

They were probably made sometime in the late 40s or early 50s, but I am just guessing.

Nice looking machine.

Great looking machine and quite a buy for $5. Is it in working condition?

Yes, I actually got it to work! At first I thought it had some problem but after tightening the belt it runs like a charm. It still needs some fine tuning but I'm relieved it sewed so well.

Do you have a manual that might have a date in the front? I found a PDF copy I found online but can't seem to get a manufacture date on it.

Lucky you. A pink Atlas is on my wish list. Great price that you paid.

I'm thinking it's a bit later, like the late 60's early 70's. Cute machine.
