Question Auction sewing machine buy

I was looking for a sewing machine for a friend of mine that wants to learn to sew.
She is a cancer survivor and can't work. She is hoping sewing will keep her mind busy.
I found this and it was only a few dollars.
I plugged it in and it seemed to sew okay. Anyone know much about this model?

I am trying to find a manual for it. If anyone has a link for it, that would be great!

You could check eBay. They often have sewing machine manuals

I'm sure if you do a google search you'll find a manual for free. I know nothing of Kenmores but there are many folks here that do. I'm sure someone will chime in soon. Otherwise, just clean and oil as normal - I would guess any kenmore manual of that vintage will do for that general purpose.

Very nice thing you are doing for your friend. Hope this keeps her mind and fingers busy while she is dealing with other issues.

I did many searches but came up empty for that model. I ended up buying a download of the manual for $5.95 and printed it out for her.
She is a childhood friend who i love dearly and we've been friends through thick and thin.
I hope she enjoys learning to sew and helps bring her some comfort.

I really like those old Kenmores. I've rescued a few from the thrift store. Usually end up giving them away to someone who needs a reliable machine. They can be a little noisy. But that one has all the stitches anyone really needs. It's a great little machine.

I have a Kenmore that's similar to the one pictured. It's been a reliable workhorse for (goodness!) nearly fifty years and the more I sew with it, the better it runs. Only brand new machine I've ever bought - $187.00 in 1968. I wrote the price in the back on my manual.

Sears always got their badged machines from the top machine makers of that particular period in time, so most of them are still going, if taken care of and not abused. I think the last one as the Kenmore/Janome. I bought one and it is one great machine too, but there will be no others I guess as they quit selling sewing machines that next year.

I had one like it and it was a great machine. In fact my son now has it and it is still going strong.
