If anyone has an idea how I can unfreeze the bobbin winder on my Singer 66, I'd greatly appreciate it.. I have been using the machine, and it purrs like a kitten.. but the bobbin winder won't move.. I can't unscrew it, as the screws are frozen in time.. I also noticed that the tiny pin that holds the bobbin in place isn't there.. I piked this up at a tag sale duing the summer, and cleaned it up, but didn't notice the bobbin problem.. Just knew it didn't work..
Whatever help you guys can give, would be greatly appreciate it.. I'd hate to take the machine in for this, as I have another machine to make bobbins, and I'd a rather wait to bring the machine in for major work, and also it would be a pain taking it out of the cabinet..

Kroil is a product that's known to work miracles on frozen screws.

If the pin is missing from the winder, that's a bigger problem - there's nothing there to drive the bobbin. Fortunately, you can buy a bobbin winder assembly on eBay fairly cheap. If worst comes to worse, there's always the separate Deluxe Bobbin Winder that is sold in fabric stores. It has a good reputation for most bobbins, including the class 66.

It is probably caused by dirt and/ or corrosion. Place some 3 in one oil in the hole between the rubber wheel and bobbin holder. Move the metal bobbin holder with your hand or vice grips (with cloth in teeth to protect the metal). Massive amounts of oil may be required. These Singer parts do not wear out but do need oiling from time to time. Good luck. Also there is one screw that holds the belt cover with winder on, you may just replace the whole unit if it has done any time in a corrosive environment.

3-in-1 is NOT the best choice for sewing machines. It may work fine for other household things, but don't use it in sewing machines. For some reason, it will harden and coat the parts with a shellac-like substance over time. I use Liquid Wrench for unsticking parts because that's what I have around. Others that I've seen with good recommendations are PB Blaster and Tri-Flow oil, as well as the Kroil mentioned above.

Good luck getting it unstuck, it does take a lot of patience sometimes!

If the pin isn't there, I would purchase a new bobbin winder assembly...you can find them on ebay. I purchased one recently for one of my featherweight machines.
