Default Vintage Viking Class 21 with Original Case & Assessories

My lovely 80-year-old neighbor is divesting herself of many of her possessions the more easily to move into assisted living. She has a beautiful green Viking with manual, assessories and the original carrying case all in good condition. I offered to look through eBay and Craig's list to do some research for her on pricing and availability and have seen machines similar to hers commanding prices of under $50. Is that about what she can hope to get for it? The machine is really a beauty; it seems so surprising to me, considering, but I am not really up on my vintage machinery. Thanks and best, Fran

I'd say if it's in *really* good condition, sews nicely, etc., that it would be worth between $50 to $100... if in less than good condition, i.e., paint chipped, signs of rust, etc., then $10 to $35.

Vintage sewing machines are not, and never will be a "good investment". Most that buy them do so because they love these old girls...and want to save them from landfills.

Just my opinion, of course!

I am new here but collect machines and I would suggest you check out the Vintage Yahoo lists. eBay and CL are not the places to get a true price check. While the 21 is not on the top of many collectors lists, I did pick up one for $130 because it was in such good condition.
I keep it set up with dark thread for all those emergency jobs.

I would put $150 on it to start with you can always go down but you can't go up.

Charlee is dead on. They go for $50 -$100 around my neck of the woods.

Thanks for getting back to me. I find "value" so confusing. I will let my neighbor know she's better off giving away her machine if she can find anyone who wants a vintage model.
