Annie, it sounds like you haven't had a lot of experience with FWs. They are awesome machines. I have 4 and will buy more if I find them for good prices. Did you find out how old it is? Look on the bottom for the serial number and we'll help you date it. And we'd love to see a picture of it.... We ooh and aah at pictures.

The price of these really spiked a couple of years ago. ($400-500 for a 221). They seem to be more reasonable now. ($200 and under). I wouldn't pay more than $200, ever. In fact, I have bought three... paid $20, $100, and $125 for one in England for my daughter.

The 222k are the really expensive ones. With that said, there are some rare 221 US World Fair badged ones that can be even more. They are worth what people will pay for them. Demand will change depending on where you can sell it. That's why Ebay is a great place to sell them, you can open up your product to so many people. Some have chrome scroll faceplates, and chrome edged fly wheels, some have graduated feed dog covers. All these add up for more value. They are fun to research and learn about. Your lucky to have one. If your going to use it, even better.

I bought my FW221 in 1960 , used, and I paid $150 for it then. That was a lot of money!! The saleman and repairman was an older man( I was in my 20's) lol told me that I should never get rid of it, even if I could afford to buy the top of the line Singer. He said it would always be worth what I paid for it. I have sewed everything, from my little girls clothes, prom dresses, wool coats and leather seat covers for my son's old MG sport car, on that machine. I didn't have a special table for it, just sat at the kitchen table. I still have it, even though I have had newer machines in the years since. I was explaining to my daughter( who doesn't sew) how much my new Janome cost so if I die anytime soon, she would have a good idea of what it cost and not give it away. She said she would probably sell it and keep the FW, it was a lot easier to use. Smart girl!! My brother, who worked for Singer for a few years, also told me it was one of the best machines Singer had ever made and to hang on to it. Guess they both knew what they were talking about. I never got rid of mine simply because it was the first machine I owned/

My featherweights were $200 and $225. One from craig's list the other from Ebay. Great little workhorses. One is white the other black

SteveH, yes he is still my DH. It cost him a lot for giving the FW away. He is not allowed in the sewing room without me, I have bought 4 new sewing machines since that happened, and I found another FW. All I have to say to him is "Do you want me to go into your garage side?" Oh, yes when we travel, and I see a sign for fabric, he doesn't hesitate to turn into the parking lot.!!!!!!!!! LOL

I have 2 Featherweights. One is original black and one is repainted purple (my avatar). Both from craigslist in Portland, great shape and complete, $150 and $140 respectively. When I bought the purple one I told hubby it was a great deal, as the painted ones go for a lot, and the foolish man thought I was buying it to resell for a profit. I enjoy it too much to sell ... I smile when I use her, just purring away ... she gets attention when I take her to class ...
