Post Domestic on the job.

Hello all,

I decided to do something a little different and found a tutorial called "microwave fabric bowl" and thought it a useful project. This time I used my Dressmaker instead of the Riccar or the Kenmores. I never paid much attention to the fact that the Riccar and Dressmake are quite similar in design and function and they are almost the same two tone color. The bowls are a great way to use up scraps. They go together quickly and can make great gifts. Hope you enjoy the pics.

I received one of these microwave bowls and love it. You place the bowl in the center, and when you are done microwaving, take out the stuff and you don't burn your fingers on the bowl. It's like a bowl-hot pad.

Check out the tute under tutorials. Darts gives them the shape and the bowls are reversible. They really are nifty, give them a try

Nice job, those look great. I made a bunch of those earlier this year for Mothers day and Fathers day gifts.

I made some of these recently and gave one each to my regular quilting buddies. They have been very impressed and one has asked me to make some more for her to give as Christmas presents. Have made others to give to my daughter's in laws.

Question: if the potato bags are dangerous and can self combust in the microwave, what is so safe about these bowl holders? Same construction. No?

I made myself a couple of these bowls. I don't put them in the microwave but use them after I've microwaved the food.

The potato bags aren't dangerous if you use the right materials to make them. Same thing goes for the bowl holders. 100% cotton fabric, thread and batting. They make a special batting just for projects like these. There used to be a batting called Warm Tater. It's not available any more but there is a different brand out now, can't think of the name of it but JoAnns sells it off the roll and in packages.
