My Mom gave me her old Singer 513 Artista. It had a broken feed gear. So I bought and replaced all of the gears. I even bought the repair guide so I would do it right. Well, now it has a bit of a buzzing type noise coming from somewhere around the bobbin. The gears look ok, not like they have been trying to eat each other up and appear to run smoothly. Any thoughts as to what I could have missed during my repair or any additional repairs that need doing? Any help is greatly appreciated!

The buzzing sound could well be the new gears meshing as they turn. I'm going to assume they are plastic?
Recently I've replaced the top gear on the vertical shaft of two Singer 413s and found they rattle and tinkle, and clatter from the bobbin area no matter what I do. But then so do the 338, and the 518.

If you have the timing set right, and don't have the "fit" of the gears and shafts too tight, I'd suggest putting some Tri-Flow grease on the plastic gears. The factories put some sort of grease on them, I've seen that a lot. So since I don't have their grease I use the Tri-Flow.
Then just use the machine. All of ours seem to be noisy, I think it's their nature.

Thanks Joe! I'll double check the timing and fit. I have some tri flow too. I learned how to sew on that machine so I refuse to give her up even if she is a bit noisier than I remember

My wife's first machine of her own is a Singer 538. It shares the insides with all these other machines I mentioned and she says it wasn't noisy like them when she got it. I think this is a design that just makes noise.

Yeah, I remember it didn't make that noise when I was a kid. It was VERY loud to begin with, you had to turn the tv way up to hear over the machine, but not like this. I can hear the right humm of the machine underneath it all. That's why I think something may not be quite right.
