I have an "old" Dressmaker sewing machine manufactured in Japan. I got the serial number off of it but I cannot find any info about it at all, I have tried several different search methods. Do any of you know anything about them?

The serial number won't get you as much information as the model number. It might be somewhere on the motor.

hmm, I'll look again. I just can't find "anything" about Dressmaker except some low end models made here in the U.S. This one states made in Japan and is "all" metal, no plastic on it anywhere. It has just been sitting under my table in my sewing room for about 20 years and I got it out today to see what I could learn about it.

is it a singer 15 clone? Mine is a Royal made in Japan. Add this to the Vintage section and maybe Billy can help you.

I got a Dressmaker long time ago from my MIL - turns out the machine was just as difficult as its original owner. I gave it back to her.

At least your MIL gave you something. The only thing I every got from my first one was a headache that went clear down below the waist. Oh, I take that back, one year for Christmas she bought me two rounds of cheese--a longhorn and a swiss. The 1st hubby said, "She doesn't like cheese." to which MIL said, "Well, you do, dear, so it won't go to waste." I never figured out why she didn't just put his name on it in the first place. My second MIL had nothing to give anyone but she was nice and that was more than enough.

Hi Lisa, I have maybe the same machine. I got it a couple of years ago and found a site to order the manual. I have no extra accessories but it sews ok with a straight seam. It is a bit slow on the uptake, so I may need to replace the motor at some time. This machine is simple so pretty and such fine craftsmanship and in perfect shape! I haven't had much time lately to really check it out since we recently oiled it and placed it in a nice deco cabinet. Mine is a pretty light aqua color. I don't have much other info than that at this time.

I had a dressmaker about 20 years ago I bought it new, from one of those guys that goes around selling a bunch of close out machines. I loved it, and it worked really well, but one of the kids dropped it...never worked again. Mine was white and all metal.
