A friend of mine knew I coveted a treadle machine and she had an extra and she gave it to me. I am in love!! However I want to see if i can find some manual for it and some of the knobs are frozen so need to know what to loosen them up. I also don't know what model the machine is to look for manuals and am hoping someone here can direct me to the right place. She is beautiful! Right now she is in a storage shed till I make room for her in the house so don't mind all the junk around her.

Lucky you. It's an early model 15 and it looks very nice. To unfreeze the mechanism, find a bottle of oil, detect all holes on top, maybe poke a tooth pick down there to unclogg them if needed. Take of all cromed plates, find all gears, hinges, where metal touches metal, and give it all a few drops of oil, wait a bit and then another drop every where. When you can turn the hand wheel you do some test sewing, more oil and cleaning. If the nut is stuck on teh stitch length adjuster, work abit at it to get the oil to seep in where its' needed, much the same for the inners of all nooks and crannies. All shiny chrome or nickled parts can be polished up with a metal polish; plates, hand wheek, stitch length knob etc. The threadle needs oil or grease too. A think oil should do the job, but if you are impatient you can you thinner spray can oils and penetrants, but be carefull and don't get it on the decals; some of them have turned out to be to harsh on them. Besic sewing machine oil is fine.

Edit, I looked up the serial number, and it turns out it's a Singer model 115, looks like a model 15 but with a fully rotary bobbin. I haven't seen any of them around here, only read about them on the web. Made in January 1913. Link to the manual for it.

What a wonderful gift! You are quite blessed. A 115 is smooth and not as easy to find as the multitude of 15s. It will smooth, once oiled.

Lucky, lucky you. That has my favorite decals - Tiffany or Gingerbread. It probably is a 115, but could be a 15 as I have found the "G" numbers are notorious for being messed up. Be careful with the decals. Clean per "sticky" in this forum about cleaning using sewing machine oil and cotton balls. It seems like it would attract dust but I have found it really doesn't and it won't harm the decals if used with cotton balls, and not "scrubbing."

For the manual, IF it is a 115. I would suggest http://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollect...2683/index.htm On page 20 and 21 of this manual has the oiling and also an image of the underside of the machine. The 15 looks different.

Don't use the Singer site http://www.singerco.com/support/instruction-manuals IF it is a 115 as the manual they have is NOT a 115.

oops -- I guess not -- similar decals to Tiffany, but not -- guess that is what I get for not having high speed -- I just saw parts of the decals and thought it was. ISMACS, Needlebar and maybe singersewinginfo.co.uk have images of the different decals.

Let us know how it behaves after you've oiled and let it seep in over night. I hope the round plate in the back cleans up fine, it usually does ;- )

Bless all of you!!!!! I am excited to get to work on her. I found lots of way and places to replace the belt so that was never a problem but I was worried about using oil and what it might do. I don't want to harm any part of it!

Gor-gee-ous machine and cabinet! You are lucky to have such a loving and generous friend! I didn't even know the 15 came in a full rotary version. Cool beans!

Also, looked up the decals on ISMACS. It's called "Wings", but I don't know if anyone knows if that was the official name or the modern nickname (you know, like how the "Sphinx" decals where officially called "Memphis".) Very nice. It is a 115. Only machine made with this decal. Though the 115 also came with other decals. This pattern is hard to find.
