Default gifts to me

I got these two machines as a gift from a friend. Both are missing bobbin plates. One is a model 99 I think. The other one is a model 457. I know I can look on eBay for the 457 and get parts but I need to be sure the other one is a Model 99. Then I can look for parts. I also need to know if the 457 is a good machine. If it is I will continue to clean and get parts for Her. I have cleaned the 99 up and oiled Her. I need to repair a broken wire on the foot controller. I have got to get the foot controller for the 457, My Friend has it but forgot to put it with the machine. I thank you for any info you have for me. I am ready to start getting them both in sewing condition. Also need feet for both and bobbins. I need to know what bobbing the 457 uses. Joy

You're in luck, they both use the same type of bobbin-class 66. At least you only have to get one kind. I'm pretty sure they both use low shank feet too. To check, take the foot off the 99 and try it on the 457. You need to check the gears on the 457 by taking off the top and also looking under the bed. Hopefully they are metal or if they are plastic, they are still intact. If all is well, then just a bit of cleaning and oiling should be enough. Good luck!

The 99 will take the same slide plate as a 66. Everything is the same on the 99 as the 66; the only difference is the 99 is a 3/4 machine.

Thanks, I am in the process of ordering a plate and some bobbins. Are thee Bobbins the 66? I have some bobbins here that are supposed to be 66 but won't work. Is there anything else I should look for besides the 66. Joy

Joy, I can't tell you zip about the 457, but the other machine is a 66, not a 99. Fluffy and Mitch's mom are right, it will take the same bobbins (Class 66), and slide plate. (Contact Cathy, mizkaki) here on the board for parts...she's AWESOME!
Miriam can help you with information on the 457!!

Ah! And when you get the slide plate for the 66, remember that it slides onto the machine from the INSIDE to OUT....people naturally want to slide them on from the end of the machine, and they don't lock on that way...it's why so many are missing!

Charlee, I found that out with the slide plates on my Red Eye. You are saying this is the same as my Red Eye and my other 66. It said the 99 was the same except smaller. I haven't looked yet but I think this one is smaller that the two 66's I have. I trust you though, I read all your stuff on here. you are really knowledgeable about these machines, Are you going by the swrial #. The number is AK030733. Joy
