I would completely believe that. Of course, the one I came across that was in my budget was an electric one. I have since seen the same machine as a treadle with the decals I wanted for not much more than I paid for this one. D'oh. Of course the good thing is, I don't have to remember to "start right" so I don't snap my thread. I'm notorious for that on my VS machines which are treadled.

The VS machines are pretty picky about that.. the blunt end of the shuttle is tough on thread, the hook machines let you get away with half a turn backwards, usually ;-)

One of the stronger '70s Kenmores in a narrow cabinet. And one thing I have wondered all the weeks that the earlier ad ran. Why is there a metal rail along the top? Does that mean anything? Is it original?

HelenAnn - that cabinet you posted is one of my very favorites. I have my FMQ Singer 15 in it. They show up in the Twin Cities occasionally, I've probably seen 4-5 of them since getting mine. Mine came from St. Louis though, it's really nice having a good friend down there that we go visit a couple of times a year - if I find something, she picks it up and stores it for me until the next visit.

That does not look original at all but I like the idea of more storage. I doubt it will work as a treadle now though. Or last with all that weight hanging off of it.

You know, I was thinking about that after I posted it. I should just pop the 201HC into the treadle and see how that goes. I really think this is where the "never turn the hand wheel backwards" part comes from. It doesn't hurt a machine, just messes the thread up on some machines but of course, like so many other things it's reached mythology status.

I just know that my 27 snarls (or breaks a thread, or both ) EVERY time....almost instantly. My 306 let's me get away with it most time....
