I can't find the thread where someone mentioned Glenn's tutorial on refinishing cabinets. Thank you, whoever (Miriam?) that was.

Good info there, and I am glad to have it.

I am afraid to try the shellac finish, though... it sounds like it would be hard to apply without problems in the finish... I tried varnish once on a door and it was a bubbly mess that I had to strip. A real pain! How difficult is it to do a good job with shellac?

Thank you, NanaCsews2. I am wondering about shellacking (sp?) the wood cabinet. (Fortunately I don't need the details on doing the head.) Are there any videos of this to watch someone actually doing it? I haven't been able to find any on-line, just still photos.

Shellac is one of the easiest finishes to work with. It uses alcohol as a solvent and is compatible with most other finishes. It's frequently used as a sealer or primer just for that reason. It is also very easy to repair if you make a mistake because the new shellac will soften the old shellac and bond to it as opposed to other film finishes that will just sit on top of prior coats.

you can also go to the upper right corner of your screen and look at the box above advance search. Type in Glenn, hit enter and all kinds of stuff will come up. But if you go to Glenn's profile you can find recently started topics then search through and you will see some of his tutorials. Haven't used shellac in a long time, but recall it is to be stirred and not shaken to mix. The shaking causes air bubbles, thus causing problems.
