I am interested in this machine and cabinet but have almost zero knowledge of vintage SMs . Does this look like a wise purchase?

IMHO it is a good deal at $80. I think you could get it for less...I would offer less and see if they bite. The one thing you might not know as a newbie is that it is a centennial model. The blue outer ring on the Singer crest indicates it was made in 1950-51. That is a nice item to have in your collection! The button holer, box of accessories and manual also add to the value. I'm not sure that the second box of accessories are for that sewing machine. It looks like a completely different model of sewing machine on the white box.

Thanks for the info, CanadianGirl I have a few more questions. What is this machine capable of doing? Just straight stitch and reverse? Can I assume the cabinet is original to the machine or not? The cabinet appears more of an art deco style in the picture. I need a cabinet and it would work for me , so it's not a deal breaker (actually it sweetens the pot).
But just want to be really knowledgeable in case I want to resell it down the road.

And another qu. If the lightbulb turns out to be burned out, are they easy and cheap to replace? If so, how would I go about that ?

I agree completely with CanadianGirl. If I was looking for that particular model and wanted the table, etc., I might pay that much. (I'm a real cheapo!). I'd probably start out offering @ $50 and be willing to go higher. It doesn't hurt to ask. Just make sure it works; wiring is in decent shape. If the wiring looks particularly frayed that is reason enough to drop the price. Cabinet looks to be in pretty decent shape as well so if all is good, that is a decent price.

15s are good at FMG. They straight stitch and this one has a reverse.

Seller bought it at an estate sale. Not sure what he knows about SMs. Might be an expert, might just buy good stuff cheap. If the wiring is frayed at all, I wouldn't buy it. Scares me.

Looking at the 2nd picture, the wiring doesn't look bad at all. When I bought mine, the insulation was crumbling off of the wires.

If the stool matches the cabinet, and you can negotiate the price down to $60, it would be a good deal.

Whatever that attachment is in the white box, it probably won't work with that machine, and you may be able to sell it to help defray the cost.
