Default Hello, Singer Featherweight 160 $ is good deal?

    Hello,
I'm Marta from Madrid, Spain and I have found a Singer Featherweight about 160 dollars. What do you think? is it a good deal? Here this machine is very rare. Looking for your advice!!!

I am not expert but it looks to be in good shape and price. Take some fabric and thread and make sure it sews before buying.

    Dear Marta in Madrid! :-)

It looks to me as thought the machine needs a good cleaning, but if you can test it and inspect it and see that the wires are all sound, that would be good. The foot pedal appears to have been re-wired and there is a converter in the photo; so, is it a North American motor? If I were you I might look instead for a FW with a European 220 motor, mainly because those converters are heavy and you will have to deal with it constantly, lug it around, etc.

For Canada, that price is not great, but I appreciate that in different regions, different prices levels apply. You are probably a better judge of that. I would consider more about what it will require to have the machine clean, running, and whether I would be happy with the heavy converter.

    Good luck!

p.s. On the plus side, it does seem to have a nice little box of feet and such :-)

Thank you Cecilia, I doubt that there are in Spain a Singer Featherweight with a 220 W motor. I think this 221 singer machine never was sold here. In UK and commonwealth I suposee so.

If it does not sew/move, then be aware that FWs are very easily thread jammed, and sometimes just a tiny piece of thread in the bobbin area can make it not budge at all.

FW needles go opposite to what you might think; needle flat on left, thread Right To Left.

I got my FW very cheaply because the lady said it needed servicing. I did not know any better and I was keen to take a chance on buying a fixer-upper. When I got it home and started tinkering, it turned out that the needle had merely been in backwards and there was a wee thread jam.

Good luck Marta, and please keep us posted! Oh, and I added a p.s. to my last message after I posted it. :-)

In Minnesota it would be a good price, if all the parts are there. Have fun!!

$160 would be a fair price in the US. It's in the average range if it's in good working condition. Make sure it's got the bobbin holder, they are relatively expensive to replace though available.

If it's not working and doesn't have the bobbin case I would bargain it down.

    I couldn't help it I bougt it!
Made in USA serial number AJ806160 is a Centennial model!!!! and works fine.
I don't get de user manual but a lot of feets, one bobbin and the holder . I'm thrilled!
The case is worst but the machine is well and shinny I think i've make a good deal.
