Default Here we go again

Well, this is sewing machine #54. All of my machines are older machines except for two. Recently I had found a 201 in a bentwood case using a knee bar lever which I knew nothing about but I purchased it anyway and learned a few things about using the knee bar lever and the two different kinds Singer made. I was able to locate the right lever with the flat end so my 201 is now complete. This last weekend I found a Singer 99 In a very nice bentwood case using the knee bar lever that had the round end instead of the flat end like my 201 needed. I figured I just needed, well, need is definitely not the right word for a person with 53 machines, I just wanted to have both styles of knee bar levers so I purchased it. It is in fairly nice condition and the decals are really nice. It needs a little polishing but we can get to that. I did wipe it down with sewing machine oil and improved it's appearance quite a bit. I think the light covering on this machine was probably a shiny metal which I am hoping we can achieve. I do have a question about the two wires that attach to the controller that plugs the machine into a wall outlet. I have taken out the screws so I could get to the controller but I can't figure out a way to get the cover off so we can maybe rewire the electrical wires.

I was also intrigued by the mechanism used to wind the drop in bobbin. I have never seen that used before with drop in bobbins. I have only seen that used with shuttle type bobbins. Another reason for my purchase of this machine.

That machine is in great condition. It will clean up very nicely. It almost looks like the light shade has a bad clear coat on it. You should be able to shine it up again.
Good find! I'm fond of the little 99s for some reason.

Very Pretty find..my very first vintage machine purchase was a 99 in a cabinet. Needed cleaning and a new hinge in the cabinet which I found on ebay and it was good to go, (and I was hooked ). I'll never have 54 though...but I still want a 201....lol

I have the exact same machine but yours is in better shape. I got mine from a CL seller who threw it into the sale for free because she didn't want it sitting around, but yours looks much better. The case is very nice. I like it!

If you don't mind my asking, what is the serial # of yours? Mine is AE509289. Your looks a bit later but just a bit.

Thanks, Blackberry. Wow, yours is almost 10 years older than mine. And in fantastic shape!

I'll be interested to see it when you've cleaned and polished and have it sewing. Have fun.

Beautiful machine! I felt better when I saw you have 54...I only have 12, 5 of which are vintage. Well, 13 when the little Janome that I ordered arrives. But it doesn't really count, because it's a present for my lil granddaughter who's just getting old enough to sew..
I'm wanting to find a child's vintage machine next...sigh...
