I should have know this when I had 3 bentwood cases to clean. I tried it last night on my treadle machine and result looks promising. Thanks for the tip. Appreciate it.

Just wanted to throw this out there- do you think it will harm the wood if I use 0000 steel wool to rub it?

0000 steel wool is considered like sandpaper (very fine) it won't harm the wood any more than sandpaper will - unless you get bits broken off embedded in the wood - but that usually does not happen if you've got a smooth surface you are dealing with.

I use it between coats but not for the final polish, as it does take the gloss off the finish.

IMO it will actually sandpapers will leave tiny visible scratches, but steel wool won't, but if small bits of it hook on wood fibers they will oxidize and make dark stains. wipe down with mineral spirits or turp. avoid rough areas. just my 2¢

Hmm that makes sense about the small steel wool bits. I have mineral spirit and will wash it down. Thanks Jim

JaniceP & SteveH - did you use a 'special' vinegar like cider or plain white (5% vol)?

I have to say this is my new default. This makes the wood really wake up and shine.

I find that if I let it sit and breath a day or two, then do the Howard's Feed and Wax, it works really well.

I am prepping 12 Treadles and 9 portables for this weekend, so my house smells like a Linseed factory right now.. hehe

BTW to those why say this is a good start to a salad dressing, you probable have never had a whiff of boiled linseed oil, NO chance I am eating anything that smells like THAT!!!
