Default How to thread this shuttle?

I hope some one can help me.

This is a shuttle out of a Frister Rossman hand crank with a transverse shuttle. It was very rusted and stuck in the shuttle holder.

Got it cleaned up, found a bobbin that would fit, and realized it has no groove to put the thread through. So how do you thread it? Is it missing something? It is similar to the transverse shuttle in a Pfaff, but that shuttle has a groove for the thread.

Thanks for you advice in advance!

I think you serpentine the thread in and out of the row of holes to set the tension. Trial and error. For more tension, lace through another hole. For less, drop a hole.

Look up Singer 12 or 13 boat shuttle user information. That may help. The User Manual download for Singer 12K tells how to do it, but doesn’t have any photos. Maybe Goggle “Singer 12 shuttle” and hope for a YouTube?

100% The biggest issue we've had with these is they want to be REALLY Clean. the holes need to not be burred (rough edged) also.

That one looks to be in nice shape, but dirty.

Thank you! I thought it might be some thing like that.
By the way the bobbin is still some dirty, but in comparison to what it was------- it is very clean----- I will do some more cleaning on it.
Speaking of cleaning, has anyone here used a small sonic cleaner on the metal parts of machines?? I am thinking of getting one, HF has them very reasonable
Thanks again -
Ethel

i have one at work and i have not seen the results i would hope for. I clean by hand. Brasso and a toothbrush (white old fashioned type Toothpaste works also) for this piece.

How funny. I have one of these, but assumed it was missing something because of that hole. Thanks

I'd be willing to take that off your hands for a reasonable sum... (grin)

Any idea what they're from? I bought a lot of them a month ago on eBay. This one doesn't have the holes.
