Default Bernina 730 record update

I went to the thrift store and found a Bernina record for $25. I saw the cam was cracked under the drive shaft arm but it had 10 feet and a hop to do small embroidery. I bought it. The repair of the cam and cleaning came to $160. The repairman told my husband it looked like it had never been used. But now I can't understand what that silver medal arm is for. I thought it was a knee lift outlet on the lower right on the front . It has an elbow in the unit. Any idea?

It's probably to lift the presser foot. That's what my Bernina 830 Record has.

I agree. My Bernina Record 830 has it. It is for lifting the presser foot. I remember back in the seventies when I bought it the dealer telling me that it doesn't seem like much of a time saving device but if you were to sew for 8 hours straight, it will save you about 2 hours. Kinda like having a third arm. Notice that since Bernina came out with that, that now other manufacturers have it also. Enjoy.

Yup! My Mom's Bernina 930 and my 1030 both have it...it works wonders with lifting the pressure foot. My 1030 also has the feature that if you press on the lower part of the foot pedal, the needle willl lift. An early form of needle up/needle down.

I have looked and looked for a thrift store Bernina! I am very envious. Some friends tell me when you have used a knee lift you'll never give it up.

A year or so ago I wanted to buy a Bernina 730 as they are suppose to be workhorses. I kept bidding on ebay but they always ended up going for more than I wanted to pay. I think you got a great deal even with the repair bill.
