It does not look like a needle is in the machine, at least in this picture. The needlebar is in her hand. If you look at the upper left of the zoom picture, the foot has an inner U shape and there is no needle. It is possible it is out of the picture, but I don't believe so.

The one which sold at the auction, in 2011, was in much better shape, so I am surprised this one came close. But... ya never know in the heat of auctions!

i'm sure it's less than a foot high, but is it less than 8"? just curious, it's so hard to tell by the pic...

I am of German heritage and would love to have a hand crank like that but I would definitely have to win a big lottery amount to get one. I certainly have never seen one of them. Really unique. Hope you get a video showing it working, SteveH.

Wow that is the neatest machine I have ever seen! Thank you so much for taking the time to get the permission to share with us. That has the greatest wow factor ever and love that she sits on the spool of thread.
