Default 1860s Nettleton Raymond

So excited!! I picked this up at an estate sale. Drove 1 1/2 hrs to get there. Pre-Civil War, New England style, circa 1860, hand painted, hand crank sewing machine. $125. Oldest machine that I own. Isn't it cute?

Wow! It just blows my mind how someone in the 1800's could figure out how to make a sewing machine without technology. That handwheel is quite a piece of equipment! And they even added an amazing artistic statement! Very cool!

She is a beauty. You are so lucky to have found one at that price. I've been looking but haven't seen anything anywhere around this area. I'd love to have one. Does she work?
