Jones Machine
I was just given a beautiful Jones sewing machine (British company, bought by Brother a couple of decades ago) that was brought to America in the 20's or 30's. I have the serial number but cannot figure out the model number....and I need to order a belt for this lovely treadle machine. Looking online didn't help. Can anybody send me in a direction??? I think with a belt, I will have it working but if not.....you folks are always here! I appreciate that so much!

Treadle belts are normally sold in 72" lengths and trimmed to the correct size. They also come in 2 thicknesses 1/4" and I think 5/16ths. For the time being you might try a leather bootstring. A picture may possibly get you the model number or at least the type.

They also make a 3/16" size. Singer used that one a lot. If you don't have the correct one and if no one here can tell you the correct size, I'd go with the 3/16 or 1/4" size. A smaller belt will be easier to fit than a larger one.

The belts are not round. You have to cut them to the length you want and either staple them together (staple comes with belt) or use dental floss and a needle to sew them together. You butt the ends together.
