Default Just bought this

I've just bought this.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1408687536...84.m1497.l2648

I'm collecting her tonight. I hope we like each other.

If all the wiring is sound am I ok to plug her in and go, or are there other safety precautions I should take first (I don't understand electricity all that well and it scares me!).

Nice 201-3. After looking over carefully, make sure wiring is in good shape, especially near motor and 3 prong plug. Chances are she'll run fine with an oiling and lubing. BTW, get a free owners manual from ISMACS for maintenance. I always get frustrated when I see how cheap the machines go for in the UK.

Have fun with it

I have brought her home and she is lovely! She is quite dirty (nicotine I think) and well worn, but she purrs and sew like a dream and is well oiled. She was born in 1940 and has had a rewire at some stage in her life. Luckily she has a manual and the key to her bentwood case.

This is my first proper foray into vintage sewing machines. I had a hand crank Singer as a child and through my early teens and I loved her. I am so happy to have this new sewing machine.

Jon, this price really seems a bargain to me. What can you buy for £20 these days? It sure was cheaper than my Bernina 550QE!!

Hello Jon,

Thank you for your reply.

She hasn't got a 3 prong plug instead two wires go directly into the motor. I hope this ok!

Hello Clare,

Twenty quid is the right price. I like the tactical £1.03 on top to make sure you got the top bid. Well done. Don't ask me about electrics, though.

Fine--A different Singer wiring scheme. Glad to hear you don't have 70 year old exposed electric cords to replace.

Thanks MimiBug 123, I am sure I will too. I can't wait to try out the ruffler attachment on her.

Littlebearquiltingboard,
I have a 201k-4, an original hand crank that is now treadle powered. I love it for piecing quilts and straight line quilting too.
