Pretty sweet machine, Joe. Woodworking isn't so bad..... just takes a little patience. We do refinishing all the time and it is so rewarding when it's done and you can sit back and admire it.

I'm not good at wood working so I try to do as little as I can.

NICE,,but do not bother with the veneer....you will never get it done good enough to stay done...just remove it all, sand down the wood and go from there...they are stiff very pretty under that veneer.

Jacquie,

I'll try to repair and refinish it first. But if that can't be done I'll peal the veneer off,and take the top parts to a furniture shop down the road from me. They sell veneer and have sanding machines they can run the cabinet parts in to clean them up.

I haven't seen it yet, so we'll have wait till I get it home to see what I'm going to do.

Nice looking machine and cabinet.

I got a belt for my Vandervoort machine, used lots of oil and now it sews perfectly. It is brand new and makes a beautiful stitch.

Are there treadles that go in reverse? The 127 I have goes in reverse, but I thought it was just cause I don't know how to handle it. LOL

Janie,

Yes, the Singer 66-16 and 18 and later models has a reverse of sorts. They call it a back tacker.
The later 15s have a reverse.
The HA-1 15 clones have reverse

Many others as well.

With the exception of the 9W-7 all Singers rotate counterclockwise, towards you as you sew.
The 9W-7 rotates clockwise away from you as you sew.

The machine is not sewing in reverse and will jam up or create birds nests under the needle plate when you turn it the wrong way. So you need to use them correctly.

My 66s will break the thread as well when turned wrong. All this just makes it more important to know your machine and make sure you get it going the correct direction.
