I just had to post this because only true vintage machine lovers would appreciate it. I was sewing a quick pillowcase yesterday and stupidly sewed right over a pinhead. The thing was, I didn't even realize it until I went to take the pins out and the head was sewn right into the fabric. It was one of those flat flower shaped pins. I had to use the stitch ripper to get the pin out. I love my 15-91, it will sew through anything and I have the holes in the pinhead to prove it.

I don't ever intend to sew over a pin, but with my old Singers, they act as if it is not even there! Dontcha love 'em?

I just found a 15-91 for $50 on CraigsList. I love it, it looks and sews as if it was never used. The wood cover makes it ever so much more precious.

I learned to sew on a Singer 221...known as a Featherweight. I use to sew over pins all the time. NEver had any problems. It was later in life that I found out I wasn't suppose to do that. I try and not do it nowdays with the newer machines. BUT there's no way I can top my old Singer machines that would/will stitch over anything. I have a 15, 99, two 301, 201 treadle, and a 127 handcrank on the way. I can hardly wait for it to arrive. My quilt guild is doing another BOM and I thought I"d give it a try. The colored photo of the quilt is done in bright colors with a black ground. I thought to do mine in reproduction Civil War fabric and stitch it on my handcrank. I know it wasn't born until 1927 but still I like the idea!! LOL

I found a 15-91 in a table for free on craigslist. I just love it! It sews so smoothly. I bought it to use on upholstery or heavy fabrics, to spare my regular machine. It really is a nice machine, and it sews beautifully. You're right about being able to sew over pins. I've done this my whole life! I really shouldn't do it, but it's so much quicker.

I'm making a Civil War Journals quilt, and will use my 15-91 just because it 'feels right' to use it on reproduction fabric.
